Introduction to Shanghai Institute of Disaster Prevention and Relief
Shanghai Institute of Disaster Prevention and Relief was established in 1989 as a scientific research institution specialising in urban operational safety and disaster prevention, mitigation and relief.In 2014, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Tongji University entered into a joint venture agreement to establish the Shanghai Institute of Disaster Prevention and Relief.The Institute is a collaborative initiative between the functional departments of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the multidisciplinary expertise of Tongji University. It is dedicated to providing the Shanghai Municipal Government with evidence-based recommendations on resilient and safe cities, as well as comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation strategies.The Institute focuses on the prevention of various urban disasters in Shanghai, while providing technical disaster prevention and mitigation services to other cities in the country, and collaborating with international research institutes on disaster risk management.
