Basic characteristics:Xuhui Riverside is the only water front area in downtown Shanghai which can undergo large-scale development. As a previously important transportation, warehouse and industrial production base, it witnessed its regional functional structure being improved and regional vitality being revived when related projects were under way.
In the development and construction, the project highlighted the organic integration of "history, culture and ecology", focused on the inheritance of history context, implemented the construction concept of low-impact development of the sponge city, and created a diversified waterfront space and ecological environment. The historical relics in the region have been effectively protected, and the traditional culture has been effectively inherited. Thus, it achieved the successful transformation of Huangpu River shoreline from production-oriented to life-oriented, improved the overall image of the south bank of the Huangpu River, and won high praise from all sectors of society and the general public.
In 2016, Shanghai started the 45 kilometers shoreline connection project of both banks of Huangpu River. Xuhui Riverside continued to build section of quality, and extended the project to the Xupu Bridge. Besides, it will build five landscape bridges, 8.4 km landscape avenue and 80 hectares of open space.
