报告简介:In geotechnical design practice, full-scale load tests (e.g., footing, driven pile, drilled shaft, etc.) can help reduce site-specific uncertainties, which may result in a more rational and economical design. Through transfer learning from a load test database, further uncertainty reduction may be achieved by utilizing non-site-specific experiences learned from the database. This transfer learning may be done via the hierarchical Bayesian model (HBM) originally proposed by the lecturer (Ching et al. 2021). However, the original HBM was developed for transfer learning from a soil-property database, not from a load-test database. A load-test database usually contains sites with extremely scarce records (e.g., 1 to 2 load test records in each site). This poses a great challenge to the adoption of the original HBM. This lecture illustrates the challenge through case studies. Moreover, this lecture further proposes a revised version of the HBM to address the challenge. The effectiveness of the revised HBM will be also demonstrated using case studies.
